What is Reposado Tequila?
Reposado tequila is a category recognised by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT), a government body tasked with setting and implementing standards and regulations across the entire tequila industry in Mexico.
Regulations stipulate that tequila reposado must be made from 100% blue agave and aged for a minimum of two months and a maximum of one year. This happens in oak barrels, which imparts a golden hue colour and introduces hints of woodiness to the tequila's flavour profile.
Reposado tequila is very versatile as it can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails. Reposado bridges the gap between the lighter blanco tequila and the richer añejo.
The word “Reposado” is Spanish translating into English as the word “Rested”, directly referring to the small amount of time that the tequila is “Rested” for in oak barrels.
