Casamigos Reposado

Casamigos Reposado Tequila is one of the three tequilas (the others being Casamigos Reposado Tequila and Casamigos Añejo Tequila) from the brand ‘Casamigos’ founded by George Clooney and his two friends Rande Gerber, a bar and restaurant tycoon, and Mike Meldan, a successful property developer.

Casamigos Reposado Tequila is aged for 7 months, and has a soft, slightly oaky taste with hints of caramel and cocoa. It has a silky texture with a medium to long smooth finish, and is in fact the only tequila (along with the other Casamigos tequilas) that George Clooney and friends say they serve in their homes in Mexico.

The story of how Casamigos started is worth telling. George Clooney and fellow actor Rande Gerber were sitting at a bar one night when building their new homes in Mexico, talking about how they were still yet to find their ‘perfect tequila’ despite trying so many. That night, they decided to create their own original tequila.

They tried 700 recipes across 2 years, finally settling on their favourite. After buying over 1000 bottles in a year from the producers they were told that to continue they would have to get a licence. At this point, they decided to go out on a whim and take their tequila public which they aptly named "Casamigos", translated to ‘house of friends’.

What makes Casamigos Reposado Tequila special?

Casamigos Reposado Tequila is made from hand-selected 100% Blue Weber agaves from the rich soil of the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, aged for 7 months, giving it that beautiful silky-smooth oaky vanilla taste.

The agaves are slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours - longer than that of most traditional tequilas which are usually roasted from 40 hours to as low as 7 hours. The fermentation process is also a little longer than with usual for tequilas - 80 hours instead of the average 48 hours.

Finally, Casamigos Reposado rests for 7 months in stainless-steel before being bottled at 80 proof and sent to us in the UK so we can enjoy this ‘Hollywood-level’ premium tequila reposado for ourselves.

The Casamigos brand is also the proud winner of several gold medals in various international spirits competitions including the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition, the New York World Wine and Spirits Competition and the Spirits of Mexico Tasting Competition.

The producer of Casamigos Reposado Tequila

Since the founding trio sold Casamigos to the company ‘Diageo’ in 2017, Casamigos tequila has been produced in the distillery ‘Diageo México Operaciones, SA De CV’. The distillery also produces tequila for other brands including El Cartel, Clase Azul and Avion.

How to drink Casamigos Reposado

With it’s clean and smooth taste, you can enjoy it straight or in a tasty cocktail.

On the rocks

Casamigos Tequila was made to be able to be enjoyed on the rocks, without any mixer, salt or lime, simply pour over ice and sip.

In a cocktail

We recommend trying the Casamigos approved "Casa Refresher" cocktail.

You will need to gather:

• 35ml Casamigos Reposado Tequila
• 15ml Fresh Watermelon Juice or 4-5 Fresh Watermelon Chunks (1”)
• 10ml Fresh Lime Juice
• 5ml Simple Syrup
• 8-10 Mint Leaves
• 2 Dashes Peychaud’s® Bitters
• Garnish with a Mint Sprig and a Watermelon Cube through a skewer

Simply combine all the ingredients into a tin shaker, and muddle with watermelon and mint. Then add ice, shake the mix vigorously and finely strain it into a rocks glass. Finally add fresh ice and then garnish.
