What is Blanco Tequila?
Blanco tequila is the purest and sweetest expression of tequila. Tequila blanco is bottled straight after the distillation process and is not aged at all, leaving the liquid maintaining all of the original sweet agave nectar, unaccompanied by additional flavours. In contrast a reposado, anejo, extra anejo and cristalino are all aged in barrels after fermentation and this aging process contributes additional flavours.
The Spanish word "Blanco" translates into English as "White" which represents its crystal clear transparent colour. A blanco can alternatively be called a "Plata" which translates as "Silver". There is no difference between blanco tequila, silver tequila or plata tequila, they all refer to the same variant of tequila which is legally identified as "Blanco" tequila.
