Cascahuin Plata 48
Cascahuin Plata 48 Tequila is another very fine and high quality tequila from the Cascahuin brand. Like all tequilas from this producer, it is made using traditional artisanal methods to give us a rich nuance of flavours to enjoy. Salvador Rosales Briseño created the first Cascahuin distillery in 1904 in the Mexican town of El Arenal.
The traditional methods that Cascahuin continues to use has shown to produce a top-drawer premium tequila. The tequila produced has high purity and retains the rich, complex flavours of the agave. The brand is recognized as being unquestionably one of the most superior producers of tequila in the region of Jalisco (the home of tequila). It’s very common for tequila producers to use modern methods and technologies to save time and money, but not Cascahuin.
Alongside Cascahuin Plata 48, the brand offers 4 other variations which are: Cascahuin Blanco, Cascahuin Blanco Tahona, Cascahuin Reposado and Cascahuin Anejo.
What Makes Cascahuin Plata 48 Tequila Special?
Cascahuin Plata 48 was named to emphasise that this blanco tequila has an alcohol volume of 48%. High ABV tequilas are the most traditional tequilas but in more recent times most tequila is made at a lower strength, typically from 38-40% ABV. Cascahuin released their ‘Plata 48’ tequila to the public so we can enjoy tequila as it was traditionally made.
Each production lot never exceeds 2500 litres, so it’s no surprise that this fantastic, velvety-smooth tequila is a lot harder to find than most others. Cascahuin tequila Plata 48 is additive and preservative free. Cascahuin takes its quality further by ensuring that they use the purest water, from deep well springs, to produce their tequila.
The majority of tequila producers use a mechanical shredder with rotating blades, commonly known as an ‘agave mill’, to squeeze out the juicy pulp known as ‘aguamiel’ (honey water), this pulp is then fermented and distilled into the splendid tequila spirit. Cascahuin however continues to do things the traditional way by turning a massive Tahona wheel over the agave to crush them and squeeze out the juice.
Cascahuin Plata 48 Tequila is made using copper pots for distillation. These pots are perfect for producing tequila as copper is a great conductor of heat, resulting in a better and richer tasting end product. This traditional artisanal method is becoming rare as the majority of distilleries now only use stainless steel pots, which are cheaper and easier to clean.
