What makes Terralta Blanco Barrel Strength even more remarkable is the traditional process used to crush the agaves to extract the juices that make tequila. To do this a large and heavy wheel called a tahona is used to squash the hand-picked, ripe agaves. This method helps preserve the agave's natural flavours without chopping or damaging the fibres in contrast to modern and commercial methods which use a shredding machine to extract the juices.

The tahona wheel plays such a fundamental part, that some of the very few distilleries that use them, give their tahona wheels special and unique names, almost bringing the wheel to life. Terralta has named their tahona ‘Frakenstein’.

Once the agave juices have been fermented, and distilled twice the liquid can legally be called tequila. Following distillation, without any preservatives or sweeteners being added and with no ageing in wooden barrels, the tequila blanco is immediately bottled. This is why many consider Terralta Blanco as one of the purest expressions of tequila available.
